Radial shockwave therapy in Alicante
Radial shockwave therapy for chronic tendinopathies, plantar fasciitis and calcifications.
What it is and how we use it
Shockwaves are acoustic pulses applied through the skin over the injured area. They stimulate the tissue’s repair response and reduce pain in injuries that have not improved for a while.
Sessions last a few minutes and are usually scheduled once a week, alongside exercise and manual therapy.
We use radial shockwave therapy, applied with a handpiece over the skin. First we assess the injury, often with ultrasound, to confirm it is one where shockwave makes sense, such as plantar fasciitis or a tendinopathy that has not improved for months.
During the session you feel discomfort ranging from mild to intense depending on the area, and we adjust the intensity so it is tolerable. As with the other techniques, loading exercise is what consolidates the improvement, so you always leave with your programme.
Used for
- Plantar fasciitis
- Calcific shoulder tendinopathy
- Tennis elbow
- Patellar and Achilles tendinopathy
- Myofascial trigger points
Frequently asked questions
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
You feel some discomfort during the application, stronger in areas like the heel. We adjust the intensity so it is tolerable, and the session only takes a few minutes.
How many sessions do I need?
Usually several sessions, once a week, together with exercise. We give you an estimate for your case after the assessment.
Does it work for heel spurs?
What usually hurts is the fascia, not the spur itself. Shockwave is used to treat that long-standing plantar fasciitis.
When can it not be used?
It is not applied during pregnancy, over areas with infection or tumours, with clotting disorders or over growth plates, among other cases. We always check first.
