Osteopathy in San Juan de Alicante

What it is and how we use it

Osteopathy looks at how joints, muscles and organs relate to each other and uses manual techniques to improve mobility in areas that do not move well.

At the clinic it is provided by physiotherapists with full osteopathy training, who combine it with exercise when the case calls for it.

The first session starts with an interview and an examination: how you move, which areas are stiff and how they relate to your pain. With that we decide which techniques to use, from gentle mobilisations and soft-tissue work to joint manipulations when they are indicated and you are comfortable with them.

Osteopathy works best as part of a plan. So, alongside manual therapy, we give you simple exercises to keep the mobility you gain in the session and help you adjust the postures or habits that keep the problem going.

Used for

  • Lower back and neck pain
  • Headache of cervical origin
  • Stiffness and loss of mobility
  • Pain after sustained poor posture

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between osteopathy and physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the healthcare profession; osteopathy is a form of manual therapy. At Clínica Sevila it is provided by physiotherapists who are also qualified osteopaths (C.O.), so they can combine both depending on your case.

Are manipulations dangerous?

When applied by a trained professional after an assessment, they are safe. They are not compulsory: if you are not comfortable or they are not indicated, we use gentler techniques with the same goal.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem and how long you have had it. After the first session we explain what we expect to achieve and roughly how many visits it will take.

Does it help with headaches?

It can help when the headache is related to the neck or jaw. We assess it during the examination.
